From Geneva, Switzerland, I bid you Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh.

Alhamdulillah, we have safely arrived via Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport, after a 13-hours flight from Kuala Lumpur.

Friday afternoon was just a chance to settle down with the hotel check-in and visit the registration desk to collect the security pass for entry into the United Nations Building, or popularly known as Palais Des Nations. Security is strict for entry to the building for the session.

Menolak tuntutan-tuntutan batil Hak Asasi Manusia

Continue reading “Menolak tuntutan-tuntutan batil Hak Asasi Manusia”

Strenghtening the Muslim position at the Universal Periodic Review

Article 3(1) of the Malaysian Federal Constitution states that “Islam is the religion of the Federation; but other religions may be practised in peace and harmony in any part of the Federation”. It has long been misconstrued as a mere official declaration. As a matter of fact, it designates Islam as the religion of the nation. It goes right to the heart of the federation, her raison detre.Continue reading “Strenghtening the Muslim position at the Universal Periodic Review”

Malaysia’s 2nd Evaluation under the Universal Periodic Review, 24th October 2013

Malaysia is fast approaching the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) session, to be held on October 24, 2013 at the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland. There were some reports sent individually to the Council by bodies such as the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, the Bar Council, the International Commission of Jurists as well as other human rights-based NGOs. However, the contents of the COMANGO (a coalition of Malaysian NGOs in the UPR process) report form the bulk of the demands contained in the documents used as a point of reference for Malaysia’s human rights record this time around.Continue reading “Malaysia’s 2nd Evaluation under the Universal Periodic Review, 24th October 2013”

Dr. Abdal Hakim Murad’s advice for the youth

The following is an extract of an interview with Shaykh Dr. Abdal Hakim Murad published earlier in the Fifteen21 Youth Magazine.

“If you are studying, especially religious subjects, you should read Imam al-Ghazali’s little book ‘O Youth’ (Ayyuha’l-Walad), in the excellent translation by the British Muslim scholar Tobias Mayer. He shows in very simple language how to study in a way that yields light, sincerity and blessing. My recent book Commentary on the Eleventh Contentions also tries to be uplifting for young people, dealing with modern political and intellectual questions in a hundred short sound bites.
