Revisit: Commission not meant for interfaith dialogue

[Note] There are attempts to revive the now-stalled Interfaith Commission (IFC), as reflected through the manipulative ways and media statements issued by certain members of the so-called Cabinet Special Inter-faith panel or “Jawatankuasa Mempromosi Kefahaman dan Keharmonian Antara Agama” (JKMPKA).

The JKMPKA, it seems, is now being dominated by those who want to have the IFC to move again in motion, with the aim of eventually having its draft bill tabled and enacted in the Dewan Rakyat. Most of the non-Muslim representatives in JKMPKA are also leaders of the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST).

A brief response to MCCBCHST’s Statement

It is with regret that we must respond to the statement issued by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) on 5th February 2013. UDHR and the position of Islam in Malaysia’s Federal Constitution

This paper examines the issue of the relationship between the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Malaysian Federal Constitution. Article 3(1) of the Federal Constitution specially singles out Islam as the religion of the Federation of Malaysia. This provision therefore, prima facie, conflicts with the provisions of the UDHR which require that people are not discriminated against on the basis of, among other grounds such as religion.

20 NGO Islam tolak LGBT

KUALA LUMPUR 5 Jan. – Lebih 20 pertubuhan bukan kerajaan (NGO) Islam akan mengemukakan beberapa cadangan kepada kerajaan berhubung rujukan syor untuk Semakan Berkala Sejagat (UPR) yang harus dipatuhi oleh setiap negara anggota Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (PBB) dalam tempoh terdekat.

Naib Presiden Persatuan Peguam Muslim Malaysia (PPMM), Azril Mohd. Amin berkata, tumpuan cadangan kepada laporan itu lebih menjurus kepada memelihara hak-hak umat Islam di negara ini supaya PBB dapat memberi pertimbangan wajar mengikut perspektif betul berdasarkan syariah dan Perlembagaan Persekutuan.

Islamic NGOs To Submit Proposals Concerning Human Rights To Government

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 5 (Bernama) — Over 20 Islamic non-governmental organisations (NGOs) will submit several proposals to the government concerning human rights issues that can threaten the sovereignty of Islam in Malaysia for the universal periodic review (UPR) purposes.

Malaysian Muslim Lawyers Association vice-president Azril Mohd Amin said the UPR would give the opportunity to the ruling government in 192 countries, including Malaysia, to declare the actions that could improve human rights in their respective countries.

Nota Awal Pertubuhan-pertubuhan Islam Bukan Kerajaan (“NGI”) kepada Sesi Konsultansi Bersama Masyarakat Madani Mengenai Penilaian Kedua Malaysia di bawah Proses Universal Periodic Review, Majlis Hak Asasi Manusia, Pertubuhan Bangsa-bangsa Bersatu 28 Disember 2012

Ini adalah kali pertama pertubuhan-pertubuhan Islam Bukan Kerajaan (“NGI”) secara rasmi dijemput untuk menyertai proses konsultansi bagi penyediaan laporan kebangsaan Malaysia ke “Universal Periodic Review”, Majlis Hak Asasi Manusia Pertubuhan Bangsa-bangsa Bersatu (PBB).
