Ramadhan Reflections 1432H

What’s next after Ramadhan? Qibla Teachers Pitch in (Source: Qibla Monthly)

Shaykh Qays Arthur:

“This Ramadhan has reached mankind in general and the Muslims in particular in a state of upheaval and disquiet, economically and politically. Allah tells us that when men are corrupt, corruption becomes apparent on earth and in societies as a sign to remind us of the greater next-worldly consequences so that we may return to the right way.

Uyghur Chinese Muslims subjected to prejudice

http://www.malaysiakini.com/letters/174007

It is true that Chinese Muslims can now perform Hajj in some small numbers. It is also true there are some Chinese-style mosques in certain areas. However, these developments are a “drop in the bucket”; if you consider the Muslim population in China is at least forty million. There must be some “token religious freedom” to get cooperation in business from the western world, hence these few “drops in the bucket” of liberalization.Continue reading “Uyghur Chinese Muslims subjected to prejudice”

Zakat Distribution and “Rice Christians”

http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/172979

In the early years of President Sukarno‘s Indonesia, there were many very poor villagers. Since Bung Karno depended on western money to consolidate Indonesia’s new freedom, churches were not restricted in their synonymous missionary efforts. The term “rice Christian” came about as a result of villagers on the verge of starvation, or even simple malnourishment, being offered rice in exchange for church membership.Continue reading “Zakat Distribution and “Rice Christians””

Kenyataan Media PEMBELA 8 Ogos 2011

The real Islamophobia

It is not Osama, or even the universal celebration of his supposed capture.

It is the twenty American states considering a legal ban on Shari’ah activities, including legal penalties for operating businesses according to Shari’ah law. It has been described as ‘a discriminatory and wholly unfounded idea‘. How this can be in a supposedly “free country” is a great mystery.Continue reading “The real Islamophobia”

Being in the company of the Righteous

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) told us that the blessing of Allah the Most Exalted is with those who gather and work as a unified front (jama’a) for the cause of Islam. In a hadith Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Allah’s hand is upon the jama’a.’ (Tirmidhi.)Continue reading “Being in the company of the Righteous”

The hazards to Islamic NGOs

The following is my brief response to the piece ‘Reclaiming higher moral ground‘:

The PEMBELA event on 7 May 2011 was held on a moderate scale. Unlike the ‘Shariah & Isu Semasa” forum back in July 2006 at Masjid Wilayah, which drew huge attendance of the public, the conservative target of the recent occasion was about 300 attendees (at least 150 turned up.) The recent gathering provided an occasion for the organizers to touch base with the leaders of Islamic NGOs while expanding our network base and to remind them of the long struggle that we must continue in light of the emerging issues, especially the ‘Al Kitab’ controversy.Continue reading “The hazards to Islamic NGOs”
