Al Qur’an makes it clear from the first Surah that the Shaitan will tempt and corrupt all human beings possible, since he is jealous that humankind is only made out of earthly mud while the Shaitan himself was one of the angels made out of fire. A Plea for the Rohingyas

Running north to south along the border of Bangladesh, one of the truly forgotten ethnic minority groups of the modern world, the Rohingyas are dying by the thousands. According to witnesses, hundreds of Rohingyas have been turned away by authorities in neighboring Bangladesh after attempting to flee the fighting in boats. The Rohingyas never accepted any other religion than Islam and were never granted citizenship or any other rights along their border with the Buddhist Myanmarese, who don’t want them and have always tried to force them to join the Bangladeshis.Continue reading “A Plea for the Rohingyas”

Secular Human Rights: End of the Road

The field of Anthropology begins and ends “on the ground”. Data is now emerging in the modern Malaysian political scene that is finally exposing certain problems in the person of a certain Muslim opposition figure that are leading us to realize the inherent incompatibility of Islamic Human Rights with the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human rights, which many countries signed years ago without realizing the implications to which they would now be leading.

Whither Harmony?

There are too many avowed Muslims resisting or even attacking the sincere efforts of uniting the people. As anticipated, following the HIMPUN event, a firestorm of press briefly flared, with the usual hate mongers jumping on the bandwagon, including among Muslims, and demonizing the organizers as religious extremists. Stateless Rohingyas in Malaysia: A Call for Action

Presently in Malaysia there are an acknowledged 8,000 people from Myanmar who are stateless. A large number have applications pending with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to be classified as Refugees. Their applications are still pending action, even after waits in excess of one year. And the number is probably three times that of the known stateless people.
